Backing Up Your Photos on the Go

We made it safe and sound to San Antonio, and I’m enjoying the beautiful sunshine (I promise to post photos later!), and I can’t hardly wait for the wedding on Saturday. Seeing as we’re on the subject of traveling, though, I thought I’d share with you what I use to back up my photos when I’m away from my home computer. Actually, I use this same tool to back up all my photos at weddings so I have multiple copies of every file.

When I was researching portable hard drive/card readers, I knew I wanted something that was fast (could copy a lot of data quickly), reliable, could process RAW files, and could let me view the photos to verify if they had all been transferred. The best thing I found that met all the aforementioned criteria was the Hyperdrive Colorspace UDMA.

And it’s definitely lived up to its expectations (apart from me dropping one, which kind of broke it–don’t recommend doing that!). I carry two of these portable hard drive + card readers to every wedding and doubly back up all my files. Since I’m here in Texas and will be doing a couple of client shoots, I’ve just brought one with me, and I’ll back up photos on it in conjunction with my laptop. If you’re looking for a reliable tool to back up your files on the go, I definitely recommend the Hyperdrive Colorspace UDMA. They come in multiple memory capacities, and you can also purchase a hard drive and casing separately if you’d like to really get a souped up drive.

Here’s a couple of photos of mine:

The reader accepts 14 different card types, and it can be charged by USB or with an outlet charger.

Laura M. - thank you for posting this info . def. going to buy it !!

Florian - Sounds great, I’ll have a look if this handy little helper is available here in germany, too. The solution I was using so was didn’t really make me happy, but this one looks exactly like what I’d need.
