A Photo Walk Along Pittsburgh’s North Shore

One of my unstated goals this year was to take more photos just for fun. While I LOVE to photograph weddings and engagement sessions, I often find myself avoiding my camera at other times because I just don’t want to edit anything else. I decided I needed to get over that feeling and rekindle my first love of photography. After all, I really do enjoy it.

So, instead of lounging about in front of the tube on Tuesday, Jay and I went for a walk along Pittsburgh’s north shore over by Heinz Field and PNC Park. I also decided to give myself a fun challenge. One camera, one lens, and one flash (eh, and one assistant–Jay). I expected to find a nice view (the weather was gorgeous), but I didn’t expect to find so much activity all along the river. I definitely enjoyed the experience, and I’m looking forward to doing more photography “just for fun.” On a side note–I’m heading to NYC in a couple of days to meet an old friend, and I can’t wait to take photos in the big city!

The view of Pittsburgh’s downtown really is beautiful.

Over by the new Mr. Roger’s memorial.

Goodbye, Mr. Fishy.

I was astounded at how many geese there were.

As it got darker, I decided to play with some off-camera lighting.

And look, even a photo of me smirking.

Pittsburgh really is pretty at night.

Goodnight, Pittsburgh!

Lisa - Love these, Mary. The color, composition, just incredible. They make me want to visit Pitt. Have you ever thought of commercial photography– seriously I love these.

Sumer Schmitt - Great photos, Mary! We were just down on the North Shore last week and saw the baby geese in the exact same spot…how cute! 🙂

Christina Montemurro - Gorgeous, Mary! I love the baby geese and the night shots, especially the bridge with the shallow DOF. Isn’t shooting around Pittsburgh the best? (I do have a hard time picturing you lounging around in front of the tube, by the way.)
