Heinz History Center Wedding Photography | Julia and Paul

After Julia and Paul’s fun engagement photos, where they ended up baking crab cakes at home when it started to rain, I knew their wedding was going to be fantastic. Julia and Paul are not only totally in love with each other, but they are also great friends and quite simply, perfect together. I loved being a part of their day…especially at the end, when they added a special twist to their wedding celebration. Can somebody say Primanti’s?

While I hung out with Julia and the girls in the morning, Jay was with Paul and the guys. We all came together at St. Louise De Marillac Church for their ceremony. After the “I do’s,” we headed to downtown Pittsburgh for some bridge photos (of course!), before ending up at the Heinz History Center for the reception. What would naturally be a fun night of celebrating was made even more so with entertainment by Jeremy Ganss, Pittsburgh’s best DJ. It couldn’t have been better: an awesome couple, a great venue, and the best vendors. Thank you so much Julia and Paul for having me share in the fun of your day! A big congratulations to you two!

The photo that changed it all…well, sort of. Julia had planned on doing an up-do for her hair all along, but when her stylist was prepping her hair and everyone saw how GORGEOUS it looked down, she pulled an “audible” and changed her hair style. Now that’s bold! And the results? Paul was surprised and pleased.

The dress was hot, OK?

I won’t repeat the story Julia’s sister told to elicit this laugh…but it was funny!

Julia and Paul had a great bridal party!

Then, of course, it started to sprinkle.

The setup at the Heinz History Center. Spectacular.

But my favorite is Julia’s reaction when she saw the room for the first time.

One of two of my faaaavorite bridal portraits.

The ol’ bait and switch.

In the middle of the party, Julia and Paul skipped out to take some photos around the Heinz History Center.

Me like.

Julia’s sister gave the best dive-for-the-bouquet I’ve ever seen…but it didn’t end so well.

But the party wasn’t over yet….although Paul’s not a Pittsburgh native, his love for Primanti Brother’s sandwiches just about makes him one. Julia had told me she and Paul really wanted to get a sandwich after their reception…and you can be sure I wasn’t going to miss this!

Hands down one of my favorite wedding photos I’ve ever taken.

Mission accomplished.

Randi Voss - Oh I LOVE that “bait and switch” one the cake. Julia is so expressive–she must never take a bad photo. Great job with reception lighting, Mary.

Mark - Can you explain your reception lighting, especially metering the flash, settings and such. I tried off cam flash at my last reception and even at 1/64pwr if was way too much unless blocked by a persons head. Great effect though.

Frank - Great job documenting their day and great commentary too!

Milla - Hahaha! Oh I love love love it! Great job Mary!
