Enjoying Pittsburgh Artists | Donora Concert

It was a usual editing day for me–fingers flying in Lightroom, Pandora playing in the background, wedding photos flashing before my eyes–when I heard a new song come up on my station that I really liked. The band’s name was Donora. Cool. I made a mental note to look them up later.

Imagine my surprise when a Google search revealed that the band was in fact from Pittsburgh. Yes, Pittsburgh, our fair city. Now I was really intrigued, and the more I heard, the more I liked them. I soon bought their album on iTunes, liked them on Facebook, and hoped they’d have a show in Pittsburgh sometime. Well, that wish came true this past weekend when they played a homecoming concert at the Thunderbird Cafe in Lawrenceville. Naturally, I took my camera with me, dragging Jay along to the show, too.

So from a large media website I came to enjoy a local Pittsburgh artist. Neat.

Two other local bands played at the show as well: Nik and the Central Plains and Lohio, both of which were great.

Mark Pastorik - Kool. Check out The Wheels – Heavy and others by them. One of their members is a coworker of mine (singer and rhythm guitar of Heavy, they change places depending on what song they are playing). Also The Monroe Diary – So Here’s The Story and others (that’s Tim Keeton on the drums, whose wedding you photographed last summer, hes sick!). I use myspace or youtube you should be able to find them easily enough there. I love that I know these artists. I don’t know if it’s your style but maybe you will enjoy.
