Let Them Eat Cake…or Cupcakes | Sweet and Tasty Wedding Options

Central to any good dinner party–weddings included–is something sweet and tasty to eat. I can’t think of many more iconic wedding traditions than the wedding cake, that towering testament to love and all things yummy. Why stacks of sugar-crusted cakey-goodness have become so synonymous with weddings, I’m not exactly sure. But it looks like wikipedia can fill you in on all the details. Regardless, finding the right bakery and design for your wedding cake can be a daunting, albeit sweet, task. Fortunately we have a lot of nice options here in Pittsburgh, including the non-cake route. What follows is a very small selection of some favorite Pittsburgh bakeries and cake-makers. I’m sure there are plenty of other great businesses, so feel free to comment and let everyone know your favorite sweet-tooth temptation.

The first up is a Bethel Bakery wedding cake from Evonne and Bob’s wedding. I loved the creativity in this cake, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about Bethel Bakery. I think they run a high volume bakery, so contact them early if you want them for your wedding.

Next is a gorgeous creation by Oakmont Bakery from Lia and Dave’s wedding. I am a personal fan of Oakmont Bakery, having enjoyed their cookies on many an occasion. Again, they are a very busy bakery, so be sure to reserve your date as soon as possible. And enjoy the taste-testing!

This clean and modern wedding cake was made by Cakes by Tammy for Elizabeth and Matt’s wedding. I loved the simple design, and it looks yummy, too.

A wonderful alternative to the traditional tiered wedding cake is cupcakes. Cupcakes not only give your guests more variety in terms of flavor, but they are also just fun to eat. These tasty cupcakes for Dorothea and Brian’s wedding were from Dozen Bakeshop. I can personally attest to the quality and yumminess of these cupcakes (hey sometimes I need a sugar fix to get me through a lively reception).

Another great bakery but which I don’t have a photo from is Moio’s. I have sampled many of Moio’s cakes, and I’m always impressed by their taste and consistency. I highly recommend them.

And I just wanted to share a couple of other cake designs that I loved but whose bakery name I don’t know. Brides–if you’re reading this and remember, feel free to let me know the names! First up is Carlyn and Brian’s simple off-white wedding cake. I loved the elegance of this design.

And finally, here is Lindsey and Kyle’s lovely fondant-draped wedding cake.

So as you plan your wedding, don’t forget to explore the many and wonderful options for your wedding cake.
