DC Birth Photographer | Documentary Lifestyle Photography in DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia

I’d seen the writing on the wall for my old trusty Canon 20D camera for about a year now, but I’d been waiting for the price to drop on the nifty 50D. Well, I finally made the upgrade, and naturally, I had to take some test photos.

Astin and Jay usually get to be the models for my test photos. Since Jay probably doesn’t want photos of him studying in his pajamas plastered across the internet, I’ll give you a couple of Astin.

He was looking kind of regal in that one.

And unless you haven’t stepped outside lately or watched the weather on TV, you’ve noticed that it’s been a bit chilly to say the least. Before the really cold came, though, I was able to snap a few photos of the snow outside our home.

A couple of weeks ago I went to the Phipps Conservatory to take some photographs for a photography “project” that I’m working on. They had their winter flower show going on, so of course, there were lots of poinsettias. Here are some photos from the day.

This flower was amazing at it was half red, half white. It looked like a mutation of sorts.

There were some beautiful orchids. I thought these looked a little Aggie maroon.

I will be heading back to Phipps again soon for an engagement portrait shoot. It’s one of the best places to go for good “outside” photos during the winter.

I’ve been wanting to start a photography blog for some time now, but I have been short on just that thing–time. With the Christmas and New Year’s slow down, I’ve finally been able to put it together. Now I just have to find the time to keep it updated!

I have a lot of back-tracking to do, so be prepared for some “old” material the first few weeks. Speaking of which, a few weeks ago Jay and I headed to the
Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium when they were offering free entry with the donation of a canned good. I’m afraid the zoo was not much to speak of–most of the animals were seeking shelter from the winter cold in their “habitats”–but we did enjoy seeing “dragons” at the aquarium. Yes, there are dragons that apparently swim the seas around Australia. They’re called Leafy Sea Dragons, and they’re incredible to watch as they “glide” through the water. Jay thought it would be fun to own one, until he found out that they are next to impossible to buy and also very difficult to keep. So, no sea dragons for us.
