I sometimes hear the phrase, “Anybody can be a photographer these days…you just need to buy yourself a good camera.” Unfortunately, in many respects this is true. The wedding photography industry has no license that you need to obtain or test you need to pass in order to call yourself a “wedding photographer.” Anyone with a camera and a website really can call themselves a photographer, and it’s entirely legal for them to charge others for their services. Of course, who knows if they have insurance, pay taxes, have backup equipment, or even experience photographing weddings?
