Virginia Family Photography | Ben’s Family

Hello March…I wish I could also say goodbye winter! But it looks like it’s here to stay for a few more weeks. I feel like I’ve been in hibernation mode this past month. When the weather hits about 40, I’m ready to go out in short-sleeves! (Well, almost).

Since it’s been so bitter cold, I thought I’d share some family photos from a (slightly) warmer time. I took these back at the end of the year but just haven’t shared them yet. If you follow my blog, you might recognize the sweet little (growing) cutie, Ben, whose newborn photos I took last March.  It was so fun to meet up with his (entire) family again and take some more traditional family photos. What a beautiful and sweet family!

Here are a few favorites from the session.

DC Documentary Birth Photography | Baby Joanna

They knew they couldn’t control everything about their daughter’s birth, but one thing baby Joanna’s parents were sure of–they wanted her to arrive on her own time. So it was that I got the call on an early Saturday morning with the exciting news that baby Joanna was ready to meet the world. She was going to be delivered by c-section, but she was coming on her own time.

I know I always say this, but I mean it every time–it’s truly an honor to be present at a birth, and I so enjoy being able to capture the moments of such an exciting time. This was true for baby Joanna’s birth, too. A big congratulations to her family!

On a side note, after photographing this birth, I’m even more convinced that having a birth doula is a wonderful idea!

DC Birth and Newborn Photography | Baby Seth

New year, new life. I’m excited to start off 2014 by sharing some precious birth and newborn photos from baby Seth’s birth. I am always honored to be able to photograph such an incredible life event like this, and this time was no different.

It goes without saying that there’s an element of unpredictability when it comes to births–even for planned c-sections. I know one of the things moms and dads want most is to hold their little newborn as soon as possible. For Seth’s parents, I’m sure it was disappointing not to be able to do that right away, as Seth needed to spend some time in the NICU right after his birth (he was fine, thankfully!). I’m so glad I was able to check back in with them a little later when they were home as a family of four together. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a big sister more excited to have a little brother! A big congratulations to Seth’s family!

Here are a few of my favorite moments from his birth and newborn session.

Norfolk Lifestyle Photography | Adelaide’s and Victoria’s Family

Living in the DC metro area means I’m located within a few hours of some pretty amazing cities and places to visit. One of those neat little towns is Norfolk, VA, and I had the pleasure of visiting and photographing a sweet family there a few weeks ago. I must confess, I am enamored with this coastal city…it’s a lovely place for great family activities and the scenery is beautiful. I’m looking forward to my next visit…and hopefully getting to enjoy the beach next summer.

I think there’s two little girls who also share my sentiments–Adelaide and Victoria have jumped right into this new-to-them town and are loving life with their family there. I so enjoyed getting to come along on a family outing one afternoon and documenting these cuties with their parents. Here are a few of my favorites from their lifestyle session.
