Unless you live in Pittsburgh and have heard of the Mattress Factory Art Museum, it’s likely you’re scratching your head at the title of this post. But don’t give up now…this was such a fun engagement session with Ashley and Matt. Since they both love the museum (and so do I–it is seriously my favorite art museum), we thought it’d be fun to take some of their engagement photos in the museum. We also sauntered around the nearby West Allegheny Commons Park and the Mexican War streets for some more traditional photos before heading for a couple of downtown Pittsburgh shots. Such a great session, and I love it when couples choose to do something they enjoy and that’s unique to them.
Matt had been chasing Ashley since 10th grade. Well, actually, they met in 10th grade and while Matt thought a trip to Kennywood together was a date, Ashley thought otherwise. So, it took some more hanging out in college together and a profession of love from Matt for them to finally get together. I love fun stories like that!
Ashley and Matt are planning their wedding at the Green Gables Restaurant in Jennerstown, PA next July, and I am so looking forward to it. Thanks y’all for the fun session!
Matt really likes Bob Dylan’s music, and he and Ashley wanted to try to recreate the photo on the cover of Dylan’s album, “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.” I think this was our best attempt! It’s kind of hard when you have to feign being cold!

melissa oholendt - Just ran across your blog while searching the web and I just wanted to say – totally adorable shoot and (I think) you totally nailed the Bob Dylan cover! Cute!
Nicole - Wow what a great back drop for pictures. I love them all but my faves are the red and blue shots.
pamela marie - the mattress factory is one of my favorite museums, too! and such a great couple/shoot! 🙂
just out of curiosity, did you have to get special permission to shoot there? i had a client ask about museums a couple days ago….
Ted - This is such a really great set! What a way to make use of the art museum!
Karey - These are AWESOME, Mary! What a fun place to shoot! I’ll have to plan a visit the next time I’m in Pittsburgh!
nancy schwarz - I have to say these are some of the coolest shots yet, and you’ve taken some pretty cool pictures!! What a fun place to photograph a fun couple. These just made me smile.
Ashley - Mary, the photos are amazing! We really appreciated the time you spent with us that day. Matt commented that the afternoon didn’t feel like an engagement session, it felt more like hanging out with a close friend who just happened to be carrying around some very impressive cameras! You are so gifted. Thanks for sharing your talents with us.
