What’s in My Camera Bag? F.A.Q #4

I know that I had promised to blog about this yesterday, but I couldn’t wait to share Kristin and Lee’s wedding. Again, I’m prefacing this equipment talk with my post about the Five Marks of a Professional Photographer, so be sure to read that first before running off to Adorama to buy everything.

As I said, all the equipment in the world won’t make you a great photographer, but conversely, having the tools you need to get the job done is important for a professional photographer. I certainly never started out with all the tools I have now, and I’ve actually changed what’s in my bag several times. What’s important to me is that I have the equipment to excel in low-light situations (which is common for weddings), and that I have redundancy in my gear. In other words, if one camera fails, I’ve got a backup. If a lens breaks, I’ve got that covered, too. And if you haven’t experienced malfunctioning equipment yet, it’s only a matter of time.

Of course, there’s still lenses and such that I have on my wish list, but this is what I have right now in terms of cameras, lenses, and flashes.

Cameras:
(2) Canon 5D cameras (original)
(1) Canon 5D Mark II camera
(1) Canon 20D camera (it comes along for the ride just in case all three of the other cameras go kaput).

Lenses:
70-200mm 2.8L IS Canon zoom lens
85mm 1.2L II Canon lens
16-35mm 2.8L II Canon zoom lens
35mm 1.4L Canon lens
100mm 2.8 Canon macro lens
50mm 1.4 Canon lens

Flashes:
(2) 580 EX II Canon Flashes
(1) 430 EX Canon Flash
(1) Lumopro LP120 Manual Flash

In addition to the above gear, I also have numerous batteries, CF cards, two card readers/hard drives (which I’ll post about later), stands, reflectors, umbrellas, battery packs, chargers, and several camera bags. I’ll discuss my camera bags later, too. Again, I highly recommend checking out Canoga Camera for gear purchases before looking at Adorama and B&H.

Becca - Dang girl, that’s a lot of gear!

ashley - Mary – The variety of lenses that you have is great, I wish that I could carry around so many! – BTW the 50D is working awesome for me thank you again!

Milla – I’d be interested in hearing which lenses you are wanting to get rid of. You could email me ashley@parsonsinc.com if you’d like
THANKS!

Milla - Wonderful! This reminds me that I have got to start selling some of my older lenses. I’m carrying around 3 lenses that I never use but started using before branching into L series lenses. I want to hear more about the 35mm 1.4, too!!
