Adventures Around Pittsburgh and Beyond

Actually, most of my photos from my brief vacation with my brother were taken outside of Pittsburgh. Although we did a couple of fun things locally–walking along the North Shore, hanging out in Frick Park–we ended up driving to several different cities for our adventures.

The first place we ventured to was the old and now vacant West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville, WV, a creepy yet interesting structure to tour. They let you take as many photos as you want, so if you’re looking for some angsty wall art for your home, be sure to look the place up. Tales of nasty prison happenings are an added bonus.

On the weekend, we drove up to Erie and enjoyed the beaches of Presque Isle, as well as a few rides at Waldameer and a hotdog or two at Sara and Sally’s. Even Astin got to come along for the fun.

And then lastly, on Monday we headed to Ohiopyle and went white water rafting (sorry, no photos from that because I wasn’t about to bring my camera on the boat). All in all, it was a fun time! Now for some photos.

The slammer.

My favorite part of the prison was the administrative building. You could tell it was once a decent place that had long since lost its beauty.

Hey, green grass, life’s not so bad here.

Fun times.

I think the tour guide got a kick out of locking people up.

Hey, at least they had TV.

Or, they could spend their time making “crafts.”

Enough creepiness…let’s get to the beach!

I discovered that midday shadows are not flattering to the figure. Either that, or we had too much ice cream at Sally’s and Sara’s.

Astin was so tired from the day he started falling asleep with his head up in the car.

But after a brief break, we were back at the beach.

Ha, love this–you can just see the rock Astin’s lunging for in the right-hand side of the photo.

Evening shadows are much better.

This photo totally cracks me up…snapped the shutter at the perfect time.

And lastly, a couple of photos from Frick Park in Pittsburgh.

And that’s it!

Linda - All the pictures are great but I especially love the sailboat one – the clouds are amazing!

Kara - looks like a fun little vacation time. Albert is all grown up! And his hair is shorter than Daniel’s now (I think Daniel’s might be longer than mine).

Kim - All of your photos are so picturesque. You make any place look like a vacation spot. It’s hard to choose, but I think the beach photo with the vibrant blue sky is my favorite.

Milla - Love your photos Mary!! Especially the mid-day shadows one. Hahahaha!!!

Andrea - Lovely stuff, Mary. Looks like a fun time…it’s great to be a tourist in your own area. And I agree – evening shadows are good, mid-day ones, not so much!
